Malai (Cream) Cheese Mutton Chops

November 23, 2017

There’ve been times when I’ve spent an entire day looking at fellow food bloggers’ websites and gone through every single post from the time they started till the present. It gives any reader so much insight into how the blogger has grown both in terms of the content (including pictures) and his/her own flavour profile. Going through my own blog since I started way back in 2012 (or even the Instagram posts), I’ve realised how much I have grown especially in the kind of food I cooked. When I was in Mumbai, I was so much more experimentative; I’d try out a new dish every other day and enjoy it so much. And I would be even more excited to blog about it. I find that feeling dwindling now. I wonder if its the fact that I’m not as immersed in the food industry here than I was back in Mumbai, or that my friends are not as crazy about cooking and ingredients as I am. Whatever it is, its getting to me. As a result, I am posting the recipe of these amazing Malai Chops about 6 months after I made them and 3 months after I edited the pics. So forgive me if I haven’t been consistent with the blog. However, keep following me on Instagram (@riotofflavours) for regular updates!

Anyway, coming back to the recipe. You get some amazing meat cuts at the local supermarket here. So one day, these Pakistani Lamb Chops were on sale at Lulu Supermarket and I couldn’t resist picking them up! As I was searching for a good recipe in which to use them, I came across a Malai Tikka recipe by Maunika Gowardhan on her blog Cookinacurry. Taking inspiration from her recipe, I set out to make a marinade of my own – and boy was it good! Since then, I’ve also used my recipe for a great Malai Cheese Tikka and subsequently adapted it to a dish my brothers-in-law call Murgh-e-Shirin. More on that later. Till then, here is the recipe for these amazing Malai Cheese Mutton Chops.

  1. Pre-heat the oven to 200 C. Mix all the ingredients together and coat the chops well.
  2. Place the chops in a hot griddle pan and grill them well till they are nicely golden brown on both sides. This should take about 10 minutes.
  3. Place them in an oven proof dish and cook for another 15 minutes. Till just done. (It can take lesser or more time depending on the size of the meat, etc) So keep checking.
  4. Once its done, let it rest for about 10 more minutes before serving.
