Hi friends and happy #fridayintroductions! I’m Whitney, the calligrapher and watercolor artist in charge of this small business. I’ve been married 5 years, have 3 “bonus” children and a super cute dog. . Here are a few random facts about me in terms of highlights from this week. Pumpkin flavored coffee (I love the Target brand or Green Mountain K-cups) has to be one of my favorite parts of the year! I bought some at Target this week and the smell alone brings a huge smile to my face. Also, the Target dollar section was stocked full of cute mini pumpkins. It all made for a good Wednesday! . My husband was out of town a few nights this week, so I’ve been on a Bachelor in Paradise (guilty pleasure!) marathon. Thoughts on Colton as the new Bachelor?! I really like him as a person, but I’m not sure he’s emotionally prepared for the journey. . I started the She Reads Truth study on Judges this week. It’s easy to look at the Israelites and criticize them for continually turning away from God. I mean jeez people, get it together! But then I look at my own heart and remember I am no different. The good news is that our sin reveals our need for a Savior, our need for Jesus. Despite our brokenness and shortcomings, God continues to work. Our story is not one of tragedy and failure, but beauty and hope in Jesus Christ. Praise God for that! . What’s a highlight from your week? I’d love to hear!
Speaking of celebrating love (re: my last post), here’s a better look at the invitations I designed for a bridal shower this past June. . I kept the invitation pretty classic, using some of the bride’s favorite flowers and colors, a monogram and seersucker detail on the back of the invite. However, I went for a bold choice with the navy blue envelopes which looked so pretty paired with white ink and custom hydrangea stamps. . These invitations went out in mid-May, right around the time Harry and Meghan tied the knot. At the shower someone told me she felt like she was receiving an invitation to the royal wedding when she got her shower invite in the mail! And that is why I love what I do!
This past June I was able to cohost a wedding shower for the future bride of a friend I’ve know basically since birth. From baby photos to church youth group retreats, it was so great to see him find his soulmate and tie the knot last month! . As a calligrapher, everyone knew what my contribution to the shower would be, ha! I worked on the invitations and lots of fun signage for the shower, including these cupcake place cards. Choosing which cupcake to eat is one of the most important decision in life, am I right?! . Thanks to the other hostesses, it ended up being a beautiful day and I was thankful to be a part of it. Hooray for celebrating love! 💕
Are you in a season of waiting? Waiting for a positive health diagnosis, for a spouse, for a baby or for a better job? . I’ve been waiting for something too. During my wait, I’ve prayed, I’ve begged, I’ve suggested, I’ve negotiated and I’ve prayed some more. I’ve prayed daily, often multiple times a day, to God. Yet, for 28 months God has not answered me. . As 2016 came to an end, I was working through the She Reads Truth Advent study when God spoke directly to me through one of the lessons. Isn’t it wild when He does that? It was December 23rd and I had assumed for sure He would have answered my prayer by the time we rang in 2017. Here’s the main summary of the lesson: “This is God’s pattern. He always shows up. He always saves. We see it in Moses, we see it in Jesus, and we even see it in the life of Zechariah. God is an always-returning God. He is always coming back, and that is never not true, no matter how thick the silence. Knowing this pattern, we are left with only one question: What will we do in the silence?” . And with that question, I suddenly had the strength to enter into 2017 hopeful. No matter how long our wait, no matter how silent God may seem, we can rest in his faithfulness. We know he’s coming back to restore our brokenness in his own time. So we press on through the wait and live with expectant joy and confidence that he will deliver us. It may not be in the timeframe or way we expect, but he’s coming. And his plan is always better than our own. 💕
