BOARD OF DIRECTORS

Peace of Mind Canada was founded by Loizza Aquino in 2015. Her realization of the need for conversation surrounding mental health came to her when Winnipeg lost several high school students to suicide within the timespan of one month- one of the students being Loizza's best friend. The lack of conversation and action that occurred within schools across the city was an issue that could no longer be tolerated. Loizza sent out a tweet as a cry for help, wondering if anyone wanted to join her on the journey to creating youth-led change across the city. Peace of Mind's founding members were amongst those who contacted Loizza through the tweet, and from that moment the movement grew far greater than what was imagined.

The organization was originally named Peace of Mind 204, but was officially renamed in 2019 as Peace of Mind Canada. The "204"symbolized the organizations origin as it was the area code for Manitoba. The need to be renamed stemmed from the growth of the organization, as Peace of Mind events were being held in Toronto and Ottawa. Peace of Mind Canada is a federally incorporated not-for-profit organization as of January 2019.

Peace of Mind Canada is a tribute to Loizza's lifelong friend, Miguel Labossiere, as well as all the people we have lost too soon through mental illness and suicide.

Our Board of Directors are responsible for acting in the best long-term interests of the organization and the community. They are dedicated to contributing their deliberations, knowledge, a long-range view, and openness to learning.
